  • Participants will learn about current policy issues affecting transgender and gender non-conforming Iowans
  • Participants will identify their roles in supporting a client's transition
  • Participants will learn the components necessary to write a WPATH-aligned letters of support for their trans and gender non-conforming clients

About the Presenter:

Em Harsch

Em Harsch (she/they) is a LMSW mental health therapist with Heart and Solutions. Em became a therapist after working in LGBTQ+ college student services for six years and learning about the gap in access to inclusive therapy for marginalized communities. Em got her MSW from the University of Denver and worked in Colorado specializing in gender-affirming mental health care for youth before returning to her home state of Iowa to support the community here. Passionate about increased access to healthcare, Em also serves on the board of directors as a community advisor and support for the UnityPoint LGBTQ Clinic in Cedar Falls. As a telehealth therapist seeing clients across the state of Iowa, Em operates from a systems and person-centered framework and supports clients on issues ranging from identity affirmation, religious trauma, neurodivergence, racial trauma, and coping with everyday life stressors.
